Frequently asked questions

How is gratuity calculated in the UAE?

Divide your monthly basic salary by 30 to get your daily wage. You receive 21 days' wage for each of the first five years of service and 30 days' wage for each year after that, with part years paid pro rata. For example, AED 10,000 basic for seven years is 165 days × AED 333.33 = AED 55,000.

Do I get gratuity if I resign in the UAE?

Yes, as long as you've completed at least one year of continuous service. Since the current Labour Law took effect in February 2022, resigning no longer reduces the amount.

Is UAE gratuity calculated on basic or gross salary?

On basic salary only. Allowances such as housing and transport, bonuses and commissions are excluded, so check the basic salary written in your contract.

What is the maximum gratuity in the UAE?

Your total end-of-service gratuity can't exceed two years' basic salary.

Does this apply in DIFC or ADGM?

No. The DIFC and ADGM free zones have their own employment laws and end-of-service arrangements, so this calculator doesn't apply there.
