Adding 15% VAT (South Africa) to your net amount.
How to add 15% VAT
Multiply the net amount by 0.15 to get the VAT, then add it on. For example, 1,000.00 ZAR net + 150.00 ZAR VAT = 1,150.00 ZAR gross.
How to remove VAT from a price
Divide the VAT-inclusive amount by 1.15. For example, 1,000.00 ZAR including VAT ÷ 1.15 = 869.57 ZAR net, so the VAT is 130.43 ZAR. Subtracting 15% of the gross instead would give 850.00 ZAR, which understates the net amount. It's the most common VAT mistake.

The standard rate in South Africa is 15%, charged in ZAR. Reduced or zero rates may apply to some goods and services. Use the calculator's custom rate for those, and confirm current rates with the tax authority before you file.
